Oh, hello blog, it's been a while.
I bet you've missed me. Probably wondered what happened to me?
Well, probably not really, because I still use you to stalk all those other blogs I started reading.
Yeah, I fell off the blogwagon, because a) I'm not getting paid for this like all those other fantastic fancy blogs that I read, and b) this girl's got a busy life doing things that get do pay me. Oh yeah- quick life update - still in Nashvegas, still working Nashvegas Job #2 (big ups to the state of Tennessee for grant renewals), but now I have FRIENDS, and my FRIENDS and I do stuff. Like, shop, and go to art crawls (which I heart, so so much), and hang out at the pool. And M's still around, the lucky dog (Hi, honey, love you!). So, I'm on the road to see him whenever he's in the state. And, well, this ole web spot just wasn't calling to me.
Well, I love to craft, and I can't resist a challenge - so I'm in.
But first - I had to join Pinterest, my new favorite timesuck. And then I had to cheat and upload this picture:
I took that picture in 2008 I think, in Waterford, Virginia, at the most awesome craft fair ever, which I've been going to since I was in utero. (Side note 1: Only appropriate, for a craft challenge, right?) (Side note 2: That was a lot of prepositions in one sentence.)
Anyway - I knew I wanted to change up some of the art in my living room. I'm trying to streamline. So I planned to swap the art above my couch, which looked something like this:
and hang one big picture over the couch. Enter 40% off coupon from Michael's and the Pinterest Challenge.
I came home with a few tubes of acrylic paint (my fave) and this giant canvas for under $18.00:
On the first night I sketched out the lines & painted the sky (Remember the picture? Scroll up!)
On night #2 I painted the rest of the building. I painted in a variation on pointillist style, so I had to work quickly. I ended up with this:
(That crumpled Gap bag is where I keep my paints & brushes. Don't judge me. It has a drawstring which keeps my little tubes of paint from rolling under things...ah, most of the time.)
I painted a thin coat of clear satin finish over the whole thing and hung it with picture wire right above my couch:
One more before to compare:
If you're detail oriented, you might notice that the couch cushions are a different color. Yeah, I went all rebel and did 2 crafts in one weekend. I Rit-dyed the cushion covers in the washing machine. From creamy-khaki to soft dove gray. If you're not detail oriented, you might notice that I picked up for picture #2. Every once in a while I do that. You can call me, Holly Housewife.
Overall, I'm totally happy with the final result, and feeling inspired to keep going with this crafty challenge. I know that the originial plan was to do one 'Pin' per season, but I think I might try for one a week. Or at least bi-weekly. I love this stuff.
Finally, Did I mention I might be a little obsessed with Pinterest? It's better than Facebook. That's right, I said it. No ugly pictures to de-tag, no creepy dudes wanting to be 'friends,' only beautiful things, delicious things, funny & inspiring things. See? So much better.
